Am I Covered with MA Auto Insurance if A Deer Hits my Car?

We’ve all been there – driving down a dark road or highway, wooded areas on the side and a glimpse of movement in your peripheral vision – odds are, it was a deer that was startled by the sound of your car or something else over there, in the dark. If they shoot back into the woods, then you are in the clear, but if they dart into the middle of the road, and incidentally in front of your car…what happens then??

Should your car get “head-butted” by a deer, are you covered by your Massachusetts Auto Insurance? What about if the deer comes through the windshield and you are injured and in need of medical assistance, is that something that is covered?

Generally speaking, if you have the proper Personal Injury Protection (PIP) coverage or Medical Payments coverage this would be covered, subject to your deductible. If you have Comprehensive coverage, any damage to your vehicle would be covered, again, subject to your deductible. However, because every situation is different – contacting your local Massachusetts Insurance agent is the best way to get more information that is specific to you and your auto policy.
