Call Encharter Insurance & Other Summer Saving Tips

MA Home InsuranceAs the hazy heat of summer sets in and the temperature begins to rise, so does your electric bill – someone has to pay for the air conditioning, right? Well it might be true that someone has to pay for the AC but that doesn’t mean that your energy bill has to cost you an arm and a leg.

Here are some energy-saving tips for the summer:

  • Energy-Star air conditioners use less electricity – keep your air conditioner out of the sun (as much as possible), keep the thermostat at 78* (on those days and nights when the temperature is a little cooler, consider raising the temperature since you can save about 6-7% off of your cooling costs for each degree above 78*)
  • Use portable fans and ceiling fans when possible to cool the rooms that you are spending time in.
  • Keep shades and curtains closed when there is direct sunlight coming through the windows and when you aren’t home, as keeping the sun’s direct rays out, will help keep your home cooler.
  • Fortunately, since it is light out later there is less of a need to have all the lights on as often. Take advantage of the natural light as late as you can!
  • Minimize cooking with the oven and stove and instead use your outdoor grill – propane is better for the environment than charcoal and other grilling methods.
  • Take a minute to call your local Encharter agent to see how you can save on your Massachusetts Home Insurance and to make sure that your policy is providing you with the right coverage for all of your summer fun – this can really save you some cash in the case of an unexpected accident!

Its time to enjoy summer! And saving some money, whether on your electric bill or your Massachusetts Insurance,  can help you get to that point of relaxing bliss.
