Cut Waste & Save Money to Get the Most out of Summer! by Heiphanie

Hello MA Insurance Blog reader!

Heiphanie here,

I was thinking about all of the plans that I have for the summer and all of the time I’m going to spend checking in on Foursquare and posting loads of pictures onto my Facebook wall and then it hit me…gas is not cheap! Despite the forecasts that gas prices are expected to top off at $3.50/gal, I am still not thrilled – though I suppose it could be worse, right?

Well anyways, I was going through a list if my expenses to see if there were places

that I could save, eliminate waste or if I was spending money on things that I just plain didn’t need. Memo to you: whenever you do this, it’s best to first prioritize and figure out what is a static expense and which you have more control over on a monthly basis.

Some of my findings?

  1. No, I do not need to keep paying for the gym membership that I signed-up for in November and have used exactly ONCE! Instead I can use the fitness center where I live and spend time exercising outside since it’s finally getting nice out.
  2. I reviewed my Massachusetts Renters Insurance and Massachusetts Car Insurance policies to make sure that I not only (1) have any and all applicable discounts applied to my policies and (2) have the right coverage. After all, what good is insurance if it isn’t covering me when, and if, I am going to actually need it – if something isn’t included properly in your policy and there is a loss, guess what? It won’t be covered!
  3. Even though my promotional period just ended on my Internet/Cable account, I am working with Comcast to find the next best promotion that can be applied. It’s good to call your Phone/Internet/Cable provider every once in a while to see if there are any savings available to you – they may not think to call you up and let you know.
  4. Did you know that for certain expenses, i.e. Massachusetts Insurance, student loans and rent, sometimes you can actually pay less if you pay online? It’s true! If you sign up for EFT for your Insurance (you can just ask!), or paperless billing for loan payments or automatic withdrawal for rent, you can end up saying more than you might think! Plus you’re helping the environment – yet another reason to go paperless J

Well anyways, I’m still digging for more ways to waste less and save more (or at least spend on the things I really need and want). If you have any ideas, I’d be more than happy to hear them – hopefully there’ll be more findings to come! Have a great weekend and happy saving!
