For many people, most of the winter is spent dreaming that you were going on vacation somewhere warm or that you were simply moving south (my immediate reaction to this year’s first blizzard). However, some people are lucky enough to migrate, like birds, to a warmer zip code for the chilliest months of the year.
But before you take flight, it’s important that you prepare your home for the time that you will be away. Here are some quick tips from realtor.org to help you maintain your abode:
- Wrap your water heater and make sure that it is turned off
- Make sure gutters have been cleared out so that they do not get clogged in the cold
- Do not shut off the heat. Instead keep it at a low temperature to keep the pipes from freezing (this will cause a lot of problems for you when you return!)
Additionally, it is always important to make sure that your MA Home Insurance is up-to-date and covering your home (and its contents) at the proper value. Call your local Encharter Insurance agent today (888-865-1244) to find out if there are any changes that need to be made before you leave.
