Dryer Safety for the Wise Homeowner

I have always liked the scent of clothes dried on a line outside during a beautiful summer day. It is just so refreshing; but who would have thought that it helps the environment and saves you money too? I suppose common sense would have dropped some hints, but nevertheless, it’s true! According to an entry in a brother blog by Ace Fire and Water Restoration, “It costs an average of 36 cents per load to dry clothes in a dryer. At one load of laundry per day, you’re spending nearly $11 per month on clothes drying. That’s at least two Starbuck lattes!” Hmmm…getting clothes smelling fresher AND a Starbucks latte? Sounds good to me!

These fellow bloggers were also helpful enough to share some of their wisdom on dryer safety too:

  • Always clean out the lint filter after each use and make sure it’s in place. Failure to clean out lint traps is the main cause of dryer fires.
  • Do not leave the house unattended when the dryer is on.
  • Check that the dryer is plugged into an outlet that is suitable for its needs.
