Fact or Fiction?
“Red cars have a higher auto insurance premium than cars of other colors.”
FICTION. According to an article on msnbc.com, “If you believe the owners of red cars drive more aggressively and get more speeding tickets, this would make sense. But there’s no data to back this up.” It may be a common thinking that red cars have higher premiums because a lot of people that buy sports cars get them in red. It’s the sports car that makes the premium high, not the color!
There are many other factors that go into your Massachusetts Car Insurance rate but, not the paint job. The year, make and model of your car all play a part in your premium as well as your driving record and where you live (where your car is garaged).
You may also be able to get different discounts based on your individual policy so talking to your local Massachusetts Insurance agent can really help you get the best deal!
Takeaway: Go ahead and buy the red car! While the color doesn’t affect your premium, there are other factors to consider when getting a new car if you are concerned with your new auto insurance premium.
