Since Mother’s Day snuck up on me this year, I wasn’t about to let the same thing happen for Father’s Day – it’s this coming weekend, in case you forgot (and happened to miss all the commercials that keep hinting at it). And just like when it comes to Massachusetts Insurance, you don’t have to spend a fortune – I swear!
Don’t worry though, you still have time to go get him a nice present (or at least a thoughtful card)…but what to get him?! Sometimes thinking of the perfect gift is the hardest part so, I thought I’d give you some help J If your dad fits into one of the categories below (and I think he might) – all you need to do is get to the store or splurge on the overnight shipping and you’re good to go! Whatever you choose, I’m sure your dad will love it.
The Sports Guy – Your dad wouldn’t miss a single game if he could help it, and when he absolutely must – he’s tuned into the CBS Sports app on his phone. No matter the season, he’s got his Super-Fan spirit right where everyone can see it and a close eye on his fantasy team – and maybe he even plays pick-up games with the guys on the weekends.
Gift Ideas: Baseball tickets, a new glove (or gift certificate for one), a jersey of his favorite player
The Outdoorsmen – Your dad can’t get enough fresh air! Every chance he gets he’s out climbing a rock mass or hiking a new trail or bringing the family on what will be “the best family camping trip ever!” Or maybe he takes to the water; kayaking, fishing and boating around every body of water he can get to.
Gift Ideas: Checking out sites like REI, Cabela’s and L.L. Bean can always spark some great ideas!
The Techy – You dad is smarter than words and he is always coming up with some ingenious solution that you would never think of in a million years. He lives and breathes electronics: iPhone, Blackberry, Flat Screens, iPads, Computers, high-resolution cameras – you name it – he’s got it!
Gift Ideas: Maybe some accessories for his MacBook Pro or get your inspiration from Best Buy
The Do-It-Yourself Guy – Your dad is always fixing something – “Why hire someone when I can just do it myself?” and he usually has a point (unless of course the DIY project involves scaffolding, power tools and a blow-torch – that can’t end well)
Gift Ideas: If you haven’t visited your local hardware store recently, it might be worth wandering around to find some cool gadget that you can convince your dad his tool box (or shed) won’t be complete without!
The Auto-Enthusiast – Your dad has a passion for cars, old or new, it doesn’t matter. He knows the year/make/model and specs of every car that you pass on the highway. Whether he’s fixing up an antique or test driving all the latest and greatest, he is always the first one to remind you to check your oil, have it changed, have your car inspected and to check your tire pressure.
Gift Ideas: Get him some new lift equipment, a GPS or jump starter set or maybe that thing that he rolls under the car on?
The Foodie – Regardless of who “brings home the bacon” in your family, your dad is the one who’s gonna cook it up! Or grill, bake, broil, sauté, or fry it. No matter what he does, everyone will love it – and unfortunately, leftovers are not a common occurrence in your household. Not to mention that he can rarely share a recipe because he can just “know” what to put in and how to season it and can “feel” when its ready.
Gift Ideas: How about a new All-Clad pan or a new Recipe Book (not that he’s short on inspiration) or a gift card to Williams Sonoma.
The Man Who Has It All – What more is there to say? Your dad just has everything he could want, and he’s impossible to shop for because if he wants something bad enough – he’ll go get it!
Gift ideas: There are always wicked cool ideas at Brookstone and The Sharper Image – trust me!
