Do you think you are above the risks associated with using your cell phone while driving? You are so good at texting that you don’t even have to look down to send a message! Or maybe you only read text messages when you’re driving so it doesn’t count, right? Or is it that you only read messages and text people when you’re stopped at a red light or stuck in traffic – so you aren’t actually in motion or moving very fast anyways?
WRONG!
The excuses are endless but, for the record, anything that you do to take your attention off the road while you are behind the wheel puts you, your passengers and other people on the road in danger of getting into an accident that often times could have otherwise been avoided. It’s true – so many of the accidents that have happened involving phones could have been avoided!
Just last month an Encharter Insurance employee, who is also an EMT, was called to the scene of a motor vehicle accident of just this kind. The driver was not talking on the phone, not texting and fortunately, not going very fast. Unfortunately, however, she did glance down at her phone and in a matter of a second, the front of her car was totally crunched, both air bags deployed and the telephone pole that got in her way, was cracked in half. This lucky driver was able to walk away unscathed, but it’s scary to imagine what could’ve happened if someone else had been driving nearby or if she had been going even a few miles over 30 mph.
If you text while driving you are not only breaking the law, but you are also making the roads more dangerous for everyone (hence it being against the law)! Not the texting-while-driving kind?
