Massachusetts Insurance for your Boat and its Operators

Boating Insurance in MAOwning a boat is a big responsibility but, you probably already knew that. Did you also know that when you have people driving your boat, they should be listed as operators on your Massachusetts Boat Insurance policy? If they aren’t, there is a good chance that if there is an accident or a loss, of some sort, your claim could be denied.

You probably put a lot of time and energy into maintaining your boat to be in the condition it is today so you also probably don’t want anything to happen to it, right? Consider this: your family is all out on your boat for a day of tubing, swimming and relaxing. You decide to let your brother drive for a while. He, however, is not listed on your policy. While traveling up a narrow channel let’s say he scrapes the side of your boat with another boat or a dock. Would it be covered?

While every situation is different, it’s important that all eligible, regular drivers be listed – your spouse, your kids who are eligible, etc. And also, that these are the people that are actually driving the boat – not just anyone who decides they want to. Talking to your local Massachusetts Insurance agent is your best bet to find out who can and should be added as an operator for your boat to make sure that your policy is actually covering you, your passengers and your boat while out on the water. Better safe than sorry!
