Move Over for Safety

As if police officers’ jobs aren’t dangerous enough, have you considered just how dangerous it is to get out of a car on the side of a highway to write someone a ticket? With vehicles cruising at 70 miles and faster, it’s no wonder that MA has instated a new Move over Law to try to minimize the number of injuries caused to officials in the line of duty.  According to WBZ news, already this year police officers injuries have increased by about 43% from last year and close to 87 officers have already been killed or injured in the line of duty.

It’s tragic that it takes more accidents, injuries and even deaths to make the public notice the urgency of the matter. Click here to read about an accident on route 24 from this past weekend.

It’s important to respect the law and allow police officers to do their jobs properly. They are trying to keep us safe and it’s not hard to return the favor. Let’s do our part to make their jobs a little safer by moving over when we see a cruiser or other emergency vehicle with its lights on.
