Black Eyed Peas front-man,Will.I.Am, produced a song for hit artist Usher this year called “O.M.G.” The track was an instant hit and climbed the charts rapidly. Well, on my drive to work this morning, I turned on the radio and heard that Will.I.Am and Usher “had ripped off the song from Homer Simpson.”
What!!!??
Okay, so obviously, when I got to work I did a little research. The mash-up of both Usher and Homer’s versions can be found here and I encourage you to listen because in my opinion, even though the beat is very simple, it sounds exactly the same (And it provides much needed humor to your work day). But who am I to judge what is stolen and what is original right? Usher and will.i.am probably have never heard the Homer jingle before, but it makes you wonder!
Aside from the fact that most of us aren’t tightly wound with the music industry and don’t have music ideas to protect, we can still take away a little something from this story. Protect your belongings and collections by making sure you have MA Collections Insurance and MA Jewelry Insurance on all of your valuables! You can never be too careful, and I’m sure that at the end of the day Homer will be giving himself a big “DOH!” for not calling his Encharter Insurance agent to have his TV song covered.
