According to a poll on wwlp.com asking readers if they know what is and isn’t covered by their homeowner’s insurance policies, 52% said ‘No’ and 47% said ‘Yes’. This means that over half of the people that answered this, have no clue what they are paying their insurance premium to cover! So, the question is, what does your MA Home Insurance cover you for and what risks are you leaving yourself vulnerable for?
Unfortunately, there is no way to answer this question for Homeowner’s as a whole since most insurance carriers offer different packages that provide different ranges of coverage and exclusions, not to mention that there are even different forms for different properties and policies. Basically, this means that it’s hard to say without looking at your individual policy what exactly your Massachusetts Home Insurance covers and what it doesn’t but, generally speaking…
Your policy is likely to cover damage from:
Windstorm
Lightning
Hail
Fire
Explosion
And, is not likely to cover damage from:
Flood
Rodents & Bugs
Earth Movement (i.e. earthquakes)
War
Nuclear Hazard
Neglect or Intentional Loss
However, the best way to find out (and you should find out, by the way) what is actually covered by the MA Insurance you have for your home, is to call your local Insurance agent as soon as possible. Especially, with the risk of floods increasing like crazy!
